Ah, sorta.  Haven't been building much at all, but have been playing like crazy.  The stage is my new addiction!  I still prowl here around a bit to keep an eye one you guys.  Don't want anyone getting out of hand, ya know.  ;-)

Your etches always look fantastic, as does this one.  I'm learning, and have done only 2, but I have been getting a lot of pitting in the masked areas and I think I am simply trying to etch too deep.  Do you know how deep yours are?  I hit mine with my caliper that has the depth measure and it came up as 0.19mm. 

Well, our drummer is actually really good and is a good guy too.  All of them are actually nice people and great musicians.  I'm actually the one that is trying really hard to keep up with them musically.   I like to think I'm nice too and that part is pretty cool. Makes practice a lot of fun.

As for our drummer, he's good and nice.  He just plays a wee bit too fast sometimes.  He even says it himself sometimes when we finish a song. 

Lots of great advice coming from a lot of experience.  From what I'm hearing it sounds like the click is the way to go.  Either PA, in ear, or synced.  I'll bounce it off of the boys and see what they think.

So I have a group of guys that I play with and for whatever reason we tend to play too fast, or play faster as a song progresses.  I think our drummer just gets a little excited and needs to calm down.  We're getting a handle on it with practice but I would like to speed the process along. 

That's where the thought of a group metronome came in.   I know some folks use a click track for practice, and we may try that too.   That would be easy to put into the monitors.   

But I was wondering it anything with a light indicator existed.  I was thinking it would be nice to have a big LED display in the center of the room.  Or maybe 3 or 4 on the walls.  We stand in a circle in our practice space so we are all looking in different directions, but still at each other.    The other thought was individual lights on our music stands. 

Either way they would all have to be coordinated and centrally controlled. 

I've looked without success and have thought of building something, but maybe this wheel is already invented.

So, are volume pedals generally passive or active?   I thought I read once that at least one example out there was just a single pot in a wha shell, but from this chat it sounds like many are more like a clean boost.

Seems like a longer term solution. 

It seems most of the solutions out there are based on some sort of panning.  How is the volume change on the Schoon and Panner as they pan from clean to dirty?

I built a similar (but different application) circuit one time and didn't care for the volume drop in the dirty when all I wanted was to raise the clean.  It seemed like independent volumes for clean and dirty would be the way to go.

So I've been researching clean blends for use with bass effects.  There are a lot of options out there.  Some simple and some complex. 

I've never used one and now I'm wondering how folks use them.  Are the blend circuits a set and forget kind of thing or is it something that gets adjusted constantly?

My thought here is that if it is a set and forget thing, then a simple utility board inside the box could convert a standard effect into clean blend without additional external controls.   Once the balance is set with internal trimmers or such, then it stays where it is and the controls for the main effect are all that is used. 

Or is the blend control absolutely required to be on the outside to be functional?

It sort of depends, really.

I have a set of vintage CTS speakers that I am going to recone.  They came out of my blackface Super Reverb.  Because of their value, they are worth reconing.  I am not sure that's true for some lower cost modern speakers.

I know you are in the Chicago area.  I've got a recommendation from somebody I trust if you are trying to figure out where to send it.

Yes, a recamendation would be great.  Considering the aplication it's more about the cost since these aren't vintage or anything.

Would anyone have any opinions on speaker re-coning? 

A band mate blew a monitor speaker and we are considering having it re-coned rather than replaced.  The cost is about half of new so the pricing is appealing.  And these are stage monitors so the sound isn't super critical.

I like to use Project Manager for big orders.  I can add items to a project titled with a date and put in items for multiple different projects.  Sometimes I take my time and may wait a couple of weeks before actually ordering, adding items the whole time.  When ready to place the order there is a button that says "Order Project"  One click and all the items are in your cart.  And the projects are stored at mouser, so you can work on the list at multiple computers.
